fuel pump cutoff switch

the PO installed a fuel pump cutoff switch. it was mounted on the dash and he used a standard wiper style switch (SPST). as i remember it was kind of nice since it was not a marked switch (like all the other dash switches), and if someone wanted to run off with my car they would have to know about that. what are the thoughts on installing a fp cutoff switch. i wouldn't want it on the dash but perhaps underneath.

Why not, but by all means under the dash.

yeah .. what he did was remove the sprite logo on the dash and then drilled (ouch!) out one of the holes to fit the switch. that switch is now gone and the dash hole will be plugged and welded. then it's on to a wrinkle finish!

I had tried putting in a fuel cut off switch in my MKIII some years ago (it was on the passenger side shelf. The LBC would go surprisingly quite a distance with the pump turned off (a couple of blocks). IMHO, An iggy kill would suit ya better.

i was gonna ask about that! i would agree that that is another positive alternative.

one thing that I did was put a "latch-up" relay circuit in for the fuel pump, this way the relay drops-out whenever the ignition is turned off and when the ignition is turned-on a momentary button must be pushed to activate the pump which stays activated until the ignition is turned off again. Prevents forgetting to "safe" the system every time. Could easily work as an ignition kill system too.

The Elan has a fuel pump switch I installed "hidden in plain sight" many moons ago.
