Well there is one Healey you guys haven't bought ,and thats my BN1 !! Thanks for the welcome to the forum . Thanks to Dave ,who managed to explain my theory of the problem in much more detail than than I could ever have managed , it was so frustrating realising that someone could be having the same frustration that I had been through 24 years ago , and not being able to offer some advice ,that may have been of help. Just to introduce myself to you guys ,I have owned my current 1953 100 BN1 for the last 24 years after buying her as a pile of what looked like scrap metal and the rusty disembowelled contents of two typewriters and one grand piano , my previous and first car was a 1958 frogeye ( oop[s sorry Bugeye ) sprite . It was only when I joined the Austin Healey owners club that I realised "Big" Healeys even existed . As soon as I saw the pictures my heart was set on owning and driving one . My car is currently undergoing its second major rebuild as I have now realised with the wisdom of passing years that some of the work I carried out as an over eager 21 year old is not really good enough ,and at that time before the intrnet age we were very much working on our own and had no instant acces to either technical information or advice . This second restoration is progressing slowly but the plan is to have the Beast at least running again by early next summer. When I can get my wife to help with digital pictures and other boring PC stuff we hope to get some pictures on here , OAC 856 will live again !!! May I ask you guys for help when I get stuck ?????????.
Best Regards & Happy Healeying , Mark R.

SURE! I would be happy to mis-guide you.
I had a simular problem with my XK140 years ago. No support like this forum or I'd still have her. I owned her 14 years and it took for ever to get any kind of part or help. The internet is wounderful!
Don't let the Jag people see this but the Big Healey is 10 times the car the 140 was.(sorry Basil)

I have one of the small square NAPA pumps here in my shop and was planning to use it on my car. Has anyone ever done this. I am using this pump now just to test run the car and it works great now but if it won`t work I need to know before I mount and plumb it to the car. Thanks Skip

Skip, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I use one of those on one of the race cars, and it's never given me any problem.
The car burns about 6 gallons an hour, or roughly the same as an Aeronca Champ.
Jeff

You got the fuel burn about right Jeff, I tossed the old 65 Cont. Hung a new 0-200 with a repitched prop after I rebuilt/ recovered the Champ and it really made a nice performer out of it. I can clear a 50 ft tree in less than 800 ft on a hot summer day.

For all those waiting with baited breath for the solution to my problem......well after giving up and spending a 100 dollar tow bill to take it to an expert, I found it was not a fuel problem, but was a bad Hall's (sp) switch on the electronic ignition I had installed about a month ago. This was to make it more reliable, of course....go figure. The switch would kick in and run, then suddenly stop...it made it seem like we were running out of fuel. After a few minutes it would start and then stop after 10-20 seconds of running. Well, at least it is now running great, and I have a spare fuel pump to add to my trunk. Thanks to you all for your splendid suggestions.

Rick,

What's a hall switch? Glad you sorted it out.

Tracy

That's a "Hall Effect" switch. It detects the presence (or change) of a magnetic field. Excellent device for an electronic distributor. (takes the place of the points)

Mike

AAhhhh, !! Fancy modern electronics , No wonder we were all confused about the problem . Anyway good to hear that you have found a cure .
Mark

Thanks....It is quite amazing that when one invests in the latest technology to insure the car will run with reasonable reliability, it bites you in the butt (boot) and turns out to be the source of the problem instead of the cure. By the way, I want to dispell another myth.....I have spent more than 20 days in and aroung London in the past 6 years, and I have never seen anything other than blue skys and above average temperatures. Does it ever rain in England?
