Fuel Line to Tank Connection Question [pics]

I am attaching the fuel line to the fuel tank and I have a question. The connector doesn't screw in flush to the tank. If you look at the first picture you can see where the brass is shinny. This marks the extent to where this attachment can be screwed on to the gas tank. My question is does this attachment need to be screwed all the way flush to the tank in order to make a seal tight enough to prevent fuel leakage? I don't want to strip it!

Should be OK. With this type of fitting, the threads are not where it seals anyway. The compression ferrule (the shiny brass piece visible to the left of the nut in your first photo) is what provides the seal, so it is only important that the nut go in far enough to crush the seal. If the tube won't turn or wiggle, it's probably tight enough.

Miser, I think you are good to go. Install and put a quart or two of gas in the tank with your finger over the tube and see what you have, brass fittings really do a good job without having to crank down on them.

Your problem of not being able to get it in any further may be because someone in the past has put a larger ferrule on the end.
