Fuel Gauge

Hello,

Thought I would start a new thread on an issue that I am chasing....

Does anyone know when the fuel gauge changed from having the panel light externally connected to the hold down bracket vs having the bulb internally like on the Speedo and Tach?

What year? Model? any info would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Bob

Hi Bob
My parts lists show three different fuel gauges, I cant tell from them what the differences were but there was one gauge for the BN1 and BN2, a different gauge listed for BN4 to BJ7 and the third and last one for the BJ8. My gauge is the same as used on the MGA I think. It has three coils inside and works in a rather strange way. There's an interesting article on calibrating it here https://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/fg_01.htm

It shows it complete and in bits so you can compare it to yours. I guess from the parts cataloge it changed after the BJ7.

Hi again Bob
Just checked the design of the fixing strap for the various fuel gauges. That for the BN1 through BJ7 have the holder for the external illumination lamp on the fixing strap. For the BJ8 it is not there thus it seems clear the change in gauge was on the BJ8.

I can't recommend SC Parts in the UK as a parts supplier, I've had several problems with them, (just my experience) but their parts book is second to none I've seen and can be bought seperately. You can look it up on line.
