I was wondering, I have seen many time folks here say put a see through fuel filter in line before the carbs. Ok I did. Now just out of curiosity are fuel filters different. I mean does it take different fuel pressures to pass the fuel through them. The SU fuel pump I understand has a low pressure. So when I look at the fuel filter should the filter be full of fuel, half full, or almost empty?? Does it make a difference?

Is the entire filter below the fuel level in the carb bowls?
Is it verticle or horizontal?
 
The fuel filter is vertical and below the float bowls but not by much

In my case I have a standard Napa see-though filter and it does not seem to completely fill up. I do not know if this is the sign of a problem or not.

In the picture you can just see the level of fuel inside the filter, obscured by the holding clip.

(You can also see the _U_G_L_Y_ Facet fuel pump that I have installed while I wait for my SU to be converted by Mr Dubois.)

The filter being full has never seemed to matter in my cars- the level seems to change whenever it feels like it but I think that the only thing that matters is that the fuel flows and that it is filtered. I have one of those REALLY old JC Whitney clear glass "cleanable" filters and it usually fills about 3/4 full.
