Fuel Changeover valve

My 1986 xj6 fuel changeover valve does not seem to be working. It switches the fuel guage but it seems to be drawing from both tanks at the same time. The return valves seem to be ok(i guess)though, at least its not dumping fuel out the over flow. Is tthe changeover valve repairable or should I just replace it? Thanks for any help on this!

I've never tried repairing them. I just bought new ones. Those stupid little valves are not cheap either. Say around 80bucks. fuel valve
And of course they couldn't be in a worse location. Let's put something electrical, responsible for fuel delivery and Oh yeah, the wheel wells seam sensible eh?
Hasn't SOMEONE come up with a solution to completely eliminate this stupid valving setup? Then you can't say, Looks like I've burned through my 9gallons, time to press the button on the dash and hope I tanked up the other side the last time I got gas.

Check the changeover switch. I have had a lot of trouble with the switch and the available replacements out there. The plastic is soft and easy to distort causing all sorts of combinations for the connections inside the switch. I have had brand new switches work fine until the switch was pushed into the dash panel and the springs that hold the switch in in place in the dash distorted the switch.

There are three parts to the system. The valve itself and two return solenoid valves. I think that XKs & Welsh both have a three piece kit containing all three valves. Have some small "C" clamps available to champ the fuel hoses to prevent leakage as you disconnect the fuel lines from the valves.

Thanks for all the help. I have located all the valves in tthe system.I believe the crossover valve is not working correctly, the switch is ok. I will keep you posted again thanks for the help.
