Frustrating new Healey problems?

Having just restored my AH BJ7 to as original as I can, I started wondering what it must have been like working in a AH dealership. First, having spent about $3,500 or more for a brand new AH, I would have been right back to the dealer explaining that after about 3 months of pulling the door shut (with the inside door handle) both sides would be useless. I wonder how they were fixed?

I just spent a day or two making two plates with drilled and tapped holes to secure the door pulls.

Anybody out there actually worked in a dealership in the sixties?
:nopity:

I would've used these (half my Healey is already held together with them, and I use them on BMWs too): https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/nutserts.php

Thanks Randy, I should of known you had a better way. I suppose you don't really need the special installation tool.

"The A-T Series Insert is installed using lightweight, hand held pneumatic tools that can be located at any position in your product's assembly sequence."

I'd still like to talk to a past AH dealership employee.

There are a couple of options; I first used a die & bolt to set them by hand. I later progressed to a tool quite similar to a pop-rivet gun. The (pop-rivet) gun type with an assortment of inserts (6/32, 8/32, 10/32, 1/4-20) are usually under $100.00.

Once you use them, you'll find many household uses as well (screendoor closing cylinders are a prime candidate).

Randy,

Great pointer - Nutserts are the best - try building anything in the computer industry w/out them!

Well Johnny, he probably would not have a clue as to how much extra cost would be involved for parts tools and additional Labor, since he probably was an apprentice of the era and cut his teeth on Posidrive screws.----Keoke.-- :frown:

Yes, your probably right? However, ever wonder why the convertible top handle never comes off but the door handles always come off? I would of thought a lot of customers would have complained about that.

Well Johnny,
In England complaining does not get you much consideration and you feel blessed when you get a little.

OH!! about the door handles they finally got that right when they produced the BJ8--Keoke--
