Well, I've had a **** of a time being able to concentrate on this suspension...too many other things interfere. I'm ready to put it back together but have a couple of questions.

1. I'm installing new steering boots since mine were cracked and torn. Somewhere (I've read it and now can't find it) I read about the procedure for lubricating the steering when I put on new boots. What do I use and how do I do it?

2. Do I keep a jack under the spring pan while I torque all of the bolts/nuts in the suspension? Where do I find torque settings or do I just do it by some sort of 'feel'?

I'm hoping to do this tomorrow (Sunday) so any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I found a John Twist video on changing boots and lubing the rack...John made a horrendus mess !! :smile: I got it done without anything except a couple of drips.

Now I still need to know about torquing the new front suspension bolts when I get the new bushings, etc. in...any help on this? Thanks.

New steering racks are prelubricated I think. Old ones use 90w gear oil. There is an oil zerk on early cars or you can pour it in from the top by removing the plate. I replenish mine by injecting gear oil through the end of the boots with a large syringe attached to a small tube I got at the local home health supplier. Then I tighten up the clamp. Easy to do it that way.
 
That part is done as stated above...piece of cake once I watched John Twist's video. Now the torquing of the new bolts...
