Hi all, Just about to delve into replacing front end bushes. A couple of questions. OK, three. #1. There is a empty hole or missing bolt in the lower A frame on both sides. Is this normal? #2 I got grease to come out of one side of both lower kingpin bushes. If I replace bushes does this mean that grease will flow both ways and I won't have to replace kingpins? #3 I noticed a spacer on one of the front springs. Did I lose the other or do I not need this one?

1) the hole is for a front anti-sway/anti-roll bar. Your car *should* have one if it is NOT a '74.5, '75, or '76 model year.

2) The lower King Pin bushes are not the same as the other rubber bushes. If you got new lower trunion bushes or just disassemble clean real good and reassemble, then it ought to let the grease flow both ways easier.

3) That seems like it could be a PO thing to me (I have no spacers on my new or old front springs). It might have been placed there to make up for sag (from tired worn out springs) on that side of the car. The springs are relatively inexpensive and if you plan on replacing all the front bushings, now would be the time to replace the springs too because the front end will be disassembled anyways.

There should be two more grease nipples on each of the kingpins (vertical parts) too.

BTW: Your garage is just ~waay~ too clean, dude. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

DUH! I had a brain cramp. I took the anti sway bar off. Thanks for the other info.

I don't know how critical you are on ride quality but, The spacer that is in the spring doesn't belong there. They were a cheap way of jacking up week springs. They also change the spring flexibility engineered into the spring as the it will bow slightly instead of flexing true verticly and thus changing it's ride characteristics. As it was said before, front springs are not all that expensive, come in different ride heights and they should be of equal design. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif PJ

You are going to replace the cotter pin in that castle nut on the lower king pin bolt, eh?

Agree w/Doc - toss the spring spacer & get new springs - they're only about $25 apiece.
