Front shocks

I recently purchased new front shocks for the restoration of my BJ7 from one of the very well known parts suppliers. While cleaning and repainting them I noticed that the lever arms on one were not symetrical to the main body of the shock. I bolted the bases of the two shocks together back-to-back and sure enough the sets of lever arms (where trunnions mount) are misaligned by over 3/16". Is this common? Would this not adversely effect castor and driveability of the car? Or am I making too big a deal of this?

Thanks,
JPF

No, you're not making too big of a deal about it. Probably the only way of knowing which shock was incorrect were to compare them to others. The supplier should be happy to express a return / exchange for you if you could tell them which one was bad. I wouldn't want to assemble and have this area under stress, could cause accelerated wear in spindle , trunnion, shock etc. Kevin

Nope just bundle them up and send them back and pick anew supplier is my advice.--Keoke

Thanks for the response guys. It is obvious, once you know what to look for, which of the shocks is out of whack. I will be talking to the vendor later today to make sure that any replacement he sends me will be visually checked for symetry before it leave his warehouse.

Keoke, as to why I was "cleaning and repainting" the shocks...Anderson & Moment state in their exellent restoration guide that the front shock bodies were not painted, but that the lever arms were painted black. The shocks came to me completely painted black. I was setting them up in "as new" condition.
