Hi guys,

Todays topic, leaking front shock.

Mine were rebuild by Healey Surgeons in 2004. Why it is leaking now, who knows. I'm just so happy that I get to do some repairs, glass half full, right :thirsty:

Has anyone purchased rebuilt shocks from:
World Wide Auto Parts of Madison, Inc?

They claim:
Remanufactured Lever Shocks
Remanufactured in-house, these lever shocks for import cars are redesigned not to leak. In fact, we guarantee it.

Re: Front shocks better rebuild than new?

HI Roger, If you want peace of mind buy new shocks. However, current rebuilds are using non rubber[ Vitron] seals where the earlier rebuilds may have had rubber as the originals.OTOH, Wold Wide Auto offer a very good guarantee on their product.---Fwiw--Keoke

World Wide Auto Parts (Peter C) is a class operation. Guarantee is real. He will rebuild yours or sell outright with a core charge.

Anything containing a fluid--esp. oil under pressure--will probably leak sooner or later. Shock rebuilds from WW hold up better than others, but may leak eventually (I had a rear shock leak from the back plate). But, WW will honor the guarantee no questions asked. WW is a standup operation. IMO, a good rebuild is as good as a new shock (except for any wear around the mounts).

AFAIK, there are no new front shocks for Healeys. The ones sold, I believe, are for MGs and are a different shape requiring some sheet metal to be removed from the inside of the wheel well.

:iagree:
As Bob said the Mg type shocks are supplied by a lot of vendors if you dont supply a core as a new outright unit, these have a large cylinder on top (reservoir or piston?) that means you have to cut a piece out of the inner wing, as I found with Welch's(they check on a jig). I therefore had to weld my elongated holes up before they would exchange for the healey type.
The ali has alot of impurites so is a sod to weld, Peter C kindly helped me with the dimensions for the holes to redrill (trapezium shape). I would of purchased the exchange units from him if I was in the US (expensive to ship twice from the UK to US and back)
cheers Andy
