front rubber bumper replacement

Does anyone have any experience with replacing the front rubber bumper on a 79 Midget-any nasty suprises when you think you are half way through & any cautionary indications of disaster I should check out before attempting this? The bumper on it now doesn't really look like rubber-it has a sandpapery feel and it is flat(no gloss or sheen)to it. It has a few other issues but I was considering this as a first step. Thanks Randi /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Randi,
Do you have a suitable replacement? I know that they are extremely hard to come by as no one is making them anymore. I've seen a few NOS items on ebay but they draw a pretty good penny. An alternative is a lot of people actually paint them with pretty good results. I think the VB catalog has a pretty good drawing of how the covers are mounted to the bumper.
Hope this helps,
JC

I dont recall it being any kind of horror show, pretty straight foward. i have a front and a rear left over. are you removing the cover or just the bumber?

The bumper itself was prettty easy (I have a 75)
Just make sure the running/turnsignal lights are unplugged.
Mine was sun beaten and had almost a fuzzy felt like feel to it. Have not put it on yet but received a NOS bumper cover on E-Bay. $100.00

The guy has front & rear & they are starting at $100. he seems to have "some" After funding Zack's mgbgt I figured I'd buy the midget a bumper before I had to drive myself to the "poor house" buying his parts LOL Randi /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Man something like those bumper covers don't come around very often but I've got lots of other things to spend a hundred dollars on with my 76 right now...lol
