Hello,

Any ideas how I can fix a front hub. The inner bearing is loose in the hub. The bearing falls into the hub with no force and moves back and forth. I could use a punch and mark the inside but I think the hub may not run true. The problem is after I reassemble the hub there is play and it is obvious it is the hub and not the new bearing. Yes the bearings are installed with thrust surface toward spacer.
It looks like I need a new front hub.
What do you think, can I fix it or do I need a new one/ used one?

I'm trying to figure out what would cause the hub to wear so much that a new bearing 'falls' into it. Questions:

1. Did the old bearing 'fall' out of the hub?

2. If it didn't, are the old and new bearing the same outside diameter?

3. Does the old bearing 'fall' into the hub?

If the old bearing didn't fall out of and won't fall into the hub, the problem is the new bearing, IMHO.

Unless the hub is cracked, allowing it to spead open, I am at a loss to see any reason for it to be worn to this point.

I need to know the outcome.

Ah Ha! We often have this problem on our race car (formula Jedi). It uses Mini hubs. Only solution "throw it away".
It's caused by lack of lubrication/too much heat, the bearing starts to cease & somthing's still got to rotate, so it's normally the bearing shell in the hub.

Hello, I have a good used hub with good used bearings that I was going to sell on ebay. it has been cleaned, painted and repacked if your interested PM me.
 
Hey I may pm you. I got a used one today. Drove 3 hours round trip. Took it apart and it is worse then the one I have. I have my local parts guy looking he may have one for Friday so going to wait until Friday. So I will pm you either way Thursday or at the latest Friday

Talked to a couple of LBC experts they told me, it is a common problem the bearing heats up and spins in the hub. Throw it away and get a new one. They said it happens because guys often have the wrong torq on the nut.
 
thanks guys for the info, looks like it may be at least a few days before I can get this fixed, off to the salt mine early thursday morning.

Talked to Winners Circle today. I ordered the tapered bearing kit, he also has a used hub in stock. Now I wait it will be at least a week before I get the parts. This vibration is getting expensive.

- found a local machine shop that fixes hubs, the guy told me a lot of old corvette hubs come through the door. He said no problem fixing, he needs to see the part to give me a price. Same shop who did my crankshaft work.
