I noticed my 73 MGB GT "floats" left and right when I shift. I have ordered new seals for the right front shock. I am going to replace them when they come in. The car was parked for two years before I got it. How about someone explaining the process (I know where the fill plugs are located)of topping off the shock fluid and what to use. I am thinking I should put new bushings in the front end SOON. Any other cause for the shifting of the front left and right when I shift the gears and no it is not because of too much power (haha).

Thanks for any help on this. I am going to use stock bushings for the replacements at this time as the car is an everyday drive to work. Gas is over 3.10 per gal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
 
weak bushes on the rear end allowing the rear axle to shift in a way that it's not suppose to when you change gears maybe? Or weak springs in the rear... rather one spring weaker than the other ... not sure on this one... I'm sure there are other things that can cause torque steer to show up on a rear-drive car, but just can't think of them atm...

As the front end goes, I know that if your cross member pads and bushings are badly worn or all together rotted away, that can cause the cross member to shift around which in turn causes the car to wander a bit particularly in conjunction with bumps, or going from reverse to foward. If it's really bad you can hear it slamming up and down bad bumps and shifting around when you switch from reverse to forward or vice versa.
 
I just finished reinstalling my front suspension after a rebuild. To save yourself some headache put the frame mounting bolts inside the cross member before you put the springs on. If not, it is nie on impossible to get them in without taking the bolts apart. I would also use tape to hold them in place in the holes as it is a chore to manuveor them into the holes from the limited bottom holes in the crossmember.
 
I will check the rear bushings as well as the front. I might as well order the complete set to bring up the total to over $100 for free shipping. I'm going to replace my head light switch and I want my own flow meter. I still am trying to find out about the sun roof in my car. It is definitely not a cut and drop in. The edges of the roof opening are rolled to make a finished opening.
