Front Brakes...

Not totally experienced with working on cars, I am replacing the front pads on a 66' Sprite.

I purchased new pads, attempted to put them on, but found the pads would not fit due to not have enough clearance (I did compress the cylinders as much as I could). I had contemplated on having the rotors turned anyways, so I went ahead and had them turned.

I cleaned the turned rotors prior to putting them back on. Everything fit in perfectly as it should. No looseness anywhere, bearings are new, etc... I am using semi-metallic pads that are anti-squeal, but added some anti-squeal "lubricant" where it should be added.

So, the brakes work very well, but boy do the let out a SQUEAL!

Any helpful hints on how to get rid of the horrible noise? I have read that squeal is from vibration, but with everything as it is set up, I should not have that much vibration.

Would it be best to try an anti-squeal strip set between the pads and the piston?

Should I replace the rotors and then buy new pads as well?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

From what I understand mother goverment is protecting us from certain materials that were used in the manufacture of brake linings/pads. so now they are prone to squeal from the reformulated materials used in brake products.

I just traded a Scion X-B because a shop could not get rid of the squeal, and refuse to drive a car whose brakes squeal. This may or may not be the problem. but if you turned the rotors (even if new) and installed new pads. Sounds like your only choice is trying your luck with a different brand of pads

Mine squealed at first, but then I went and performed several "hot stops", and they eventually settled in and quit squealing.

I've always found that they wear-in and the squeal goes away after a little driving.

"Decisive" use of the brakes should alleviate the squeal temporarily... try a different compound pad, or get some Permatex spray-on "Anti-Squeal" compound and treat the existing pads.

You can try sanding the pad material with some #180 sandpaper to knock down any glaze before reinstall.

Here's the trick.
Pull the pads and bevel the leading edge (bottom) of each puck with a grinding wheel or a bastard file to eliminate the hard edge of the puck where it interfaces with the disk. Squeal is caused by the puck vibrating against the disk, much like finger nails on a black board. The bevel should eliminate the problem.
