My buddy and I are starting to ask the question of improving the front disc on our bugeyes. They work, but what can we do and is it an improvement we want to make? Asked about the pads the racers use and was told that they have heat them up before they really work well, not something for the street. The next solution was a softer pad available from VB, anybody have any thoughts here. The next thought was that the racers use the calapers from a B with a conversion from Winners circle, what is somebody's thoughts that has done this. The last thing is that is any of this really necessary, I've already done the disc brake conversion.
 
I've always found my brakes to be quite adequate in stock form. I can lock them almost immediately if I want, and they have only once gotten too hot so that I noticed the difference.
 
A properly maintained set of disc/drum brakes on a Bugeye should be more than adequate for any street driving that you'll do.
Did you change the rears over to the later setup when you did the disc conversion?
I run the VB 13-003 pads on the front, and 6-591 shoes on the rear of my '65 Sprite that sees a lot of mountain driving in Northern California, and I've never had problems with brake fade, or any brake related issues at all.
Make sure your hoses are in good condition, the brakes are properly bled, and you should have no difficulties. I also periodically flush the system and fill with fresh fluid.
The big brake conversions, Hawk Blue pads, etc, are strictly for racing use, and could actually impair brake performance on a street driven vehicle.

Do you have the original MC? Has it been resleeved to 3/4 or is it the standard 7/8?
