Front brake hose length

I purchased replacements for the front flexible brake hoses and discovered that the new ones made by TRW are shorter than the ones that were on the car (see pic of old and new hoses). I had one of the new ones mounted and it looked a little stressed with the wheel turned to the max. However, the wheel was also hanging down with the car being up on jack stands. Perhaps it will be ok once the car is off the stands and the suspension fully loaded?

The hoses were purchased from Moss. Moss lists the hose as the same used on a TR4.

Anyone run into this?

Yup, found the same thing. I noticed that the original hose has been rubbing on the tyre so reasoned that it wasn't correct.

The replacement TRW/Lucas ones I got sent have a smaller hex on the end and it doesn't lock into the plates on the chassis properly so is difficult to tighten up, do yours also have a smaller hex? 5/8 vs 11/16 I think

The length of the front flex hose is 14 " total length. Classic Brake Tube of Buffalo NY carry these and will make to measure .

I had a little trouble with short braided stainless hoses ! After searching I found the correct length (end to end including fittings) of 13.63".
Supplied by Techna-fit in Torrance CA. Hose p/n AH-1005CH (DOT approved). Cost -$36 per set of three.

Just a postscript to this thread...I contacted the good folks at Moss and interestingly the braided stainless steel hoses they sell are longer than the rubber equivalent. Moss tech-support had no explanation for this discrepancy. The rubber ones measure approx. 11.5" O/A while the braided stainless ones measure approx. 13" O/A, which is the same as my old ones, so I ordered a set of the braided stainless hoses.

Interesting, I guess too long can be as bad as too short. The Moss part number for the front brake hose I got is 584-070. Another wrinkle to the story is that I also ordered a rear flex hose (the one that goes from the chassis to the pipe mounted on the rear axle) and it fit perfectly on the front!? That hose part number is 584-050.
