frogeye clutch

Hi
I have just bought a 1958 frogeye sprite and am having trouble getting the car into 1st or reverse gear when the engine is running (will go in if you switch the engine off)

All other gears are fine, and am presuming that I have a clutch problem as there seams to be very little travel on the peddle – is there away of adjusting this? As the clutch is not slipping?

Help appreciated

Hi Forgi,
Welcome to the forum. You may want to post this question in the Spridget forum. Most of the questions here pertain to the 100 or 3000 Healeys. I would say check the rubber hose on the hydraulic clutch to see if its getting soft, but I don’t even know if a Sprite uses a hydraulic clutch. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

No way to adjust the clutch, I would recommend bleeding it to see if there is any air trapped.

See how much travel is at the slave (it should be about 2").

Also posting on the spridget forum is a good idea.

Patrick
