Got an email from a friend this week, this is what happened when he got home - went inside to turn on the AC - came out to get the mail and...















Ouch - No idea why yet but at least he was safe!

good thing the house didn't go up too.

interesting thing about that event.......it appears no neighbors came out to see what's going on.

What in the world does a water pump need a circuit board for?
 
Geez. How long did it take the FD to get there!?

The first pictures show it is light out and then it's pitch black when the FD is hosing it down!

I believe the camera is reacting to the brightness of the flames.
 
This is a reminder how important it is to keep extinguishers handy.

though a fuel fire like that looks like it was unstoppable.
 
Ahha, so it is an auxiliary pump for the turbo charger, I understand now. My favorite part from the article Jay shared was this line: "First you can continue to drive your car. However MINI recommends parking your vehicle outdoors until repairs have been performed."
You know that way your car when it catches fire doesn't burn your house down. If I were a Mini owner I'd be so happy that BMW is looking out for me.
 
That's scary when it's so close to the house. Good thing the car wasn't garaged or in the carport.

I guess it's a paradox of cars: As cars get more "refined", it seems that there is more that can go wrong.

Indeed - he had an extinguisher
 
Nephews car an 's' did the same thing, apparently there was an issue with the supercharger overheating and there was a recall to fix it, had the fix done and 2 weeks later came home put the car in the carport and about 30 mins later heard noises outside and sure enough same thing, grabbed the keys to his carrera which was in the garage and got it out as the fire dept got there, they told him he was taking a chance getting it out as the garage wall was starting to burn.
 
Is there a year span for this issue? My son bought his wife one a couple years ago, but thankfully no issues have emerged. PJ
 
I heard it only happened with the "S" not the standard MINI
