TR6 Fresh air vent seal

Hi! This is my fist post to this forum so please be patient.
I'm currently working on a 71 tr6 with a multitude of problems. One of them has me stymied. The fresh air vent door seal is shot. I took out the three bolts holding it in place, but the seal seems to have no intentions of coming out. It appears to be between two sheets of metal. Does anyone have an idea how I can extract it? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks a lot. Bob

You have to remove the cover plate, the seal has a lip that the hinged attachment to the cover sandwiches between the that attachment and the body. You also have to take the control rod off the vent cover to get it off. If it is the original seal it might be sort of dried/stuck on there pretty good, if that is the case you will probably break it taking it off, but if replacing it so what? The new seals make the lid sit proud (at least they do mine, and I tried a couple), given that I don't drive my car in the weather much and had I known that would have kept the old one on if I could have kept it intact and still painted the car.

I seem to be bending the plate on top of the seal flange while trying to separate from the lower plate. Do you have to take the control rod off to separate the two pieces of metal that sandwich the gasket?
