Freeze plugs

Safest way is to drill a hole in em and pull em out.

replace with a hammer gentle like and then set in the center.
 
Agreed. Drill 'em and lever 'em out. Tap in the new ones with a ball-peen hammer (the 'flat' end). This is the ONE place I use the dreaded Permatex #2, BTW.
