Seriously, I would want to ask some very pointed questions about "TR6 SU carbs", since AFAIK the factory never put SU carbs on a TR6. In particular, who chose the components to make them suitable for a TR6 ... the float bowls look awfully close to vertical to me, while the TR6 needs inclined bowls. Those also look like "waxstat" jets, which are notoriously troublesome (on cars so fitted, which again was never a TR6).

I may be wrong about this, but I've heard that the Aussie 6's had SU's. Apparently they didn't need to comply with EPA and the emission mods you find on the CDSE and the CD-2SE. And since the carbs on the TR6 sit vertical, not at an angle like some of the Volvo SU's being offered as being suitable for a TR6, I think the angle of the float bowls is correct..
Just some information I've been collecting because I had been cosidering a conversion, myself.

That's interesting, I had not heard that. But if they didn't need low emissions, why didn't they get the PI version?

Good question, Randall. I've wondered the same thing.
That fellow "roslain" sell a few sets every so often on Ebay. The thing I like about his deals are that you get all the linkage you need to get to the firewall accelerator rod.

Personally, I wouldn't give over a 100 bucks for a pair of carbs in a box unless I know who,s selling them. And, that's a very short list, very short. There are too many variables. Loose shafts, bad pistons, Gummed up, bad floats, cracked or bent flanges etc. As to comparing prices, those low starting prices on ebay mean nothing as to what the owner will wind up taking. Those prices are just bait! 50 bucks could mean he'll except nothing under 3 or 4 hundred.

for whatever its worth i bought a pair on ebay from that guy in ca. and they were volvo su's and had to change the float valves and a few other assorted pieces since i'm in ny i went to see joe curto and he had everything in order to complete the conversion . i'd say i probably spent around 500 for everything .i'm going to put them on ebay for a buy it now price of 350 so if anyone is interested get back to me

Has anyone considered using Datsun 240Z Hitachi carbs 1970 to 1972? They are jetted for 2.4 liter 6? Same 1.75 bore.....and they made much more cars than Triumph. I used them to replace the Zenith-Strombergs on TR7s with cam, head and exhaust work. Never had an issue. You will have to make linkage but the early nonwater choke carbs are the ones for the swap and you can re-use the stock air filter assembly too! Food for thought?

I got an e-mail just this morning from SU carbs (owned by Burlen now, I think?) - they have a TR6 conversion kit with a pair of brand new HS6 carbs and linkage:

With the current exchange rate I would guess it would be under $500 including shipping. A bit more than a used pair, but someone might like it.
