found out gas gauge works

Gundy

Today I fiddled with the twin HS4s today for a while.
I noticed the gas gauge read "E". WTH....I've driven about
170 miles. There should be gas!
Oh well, took a test spin and was going to gas her up at the
nearest station which is 5 miles away.
Got to the station and I had forgotten my gas cap key. Grrrrr
Drove back home and it began to sputter a couple of miles
from home.
While it idled as I ran into the garage for the gas cap key it died. Poor old SU electric pump was ticking it's heart out.
Guess it used quite a bit of fuel during the tuning the last few days without adding mileage to the odometer.
I feel very lucky it ran out at home and not out on the road.
Splashed some(shudder)regular lawnmower gas it and drove back
to the station. I figured with 10-1 it would be pinging it guts out. Nope ran fine on the bit of regular fuel.
Topped it off with premium fuel and all's well.
Thankfully it has a new gas tank so I didn't suck up any crud.

Always nice to see that something on the car is working as it ought to. Now you know that E means E!

Or... Eeeeep! :jester:

It is pretty amazing how much fuel you can use "tuning"

+1 don't ask me how I know

That reminds me... I should fill up the next time I'm out on a tuning run...

Hi David,

Geez; Why don`t you simply put the "Ignition & Gas Cap Keys" on the "Key Fob" I gave you? Then; You won`t have to worry about these little problems.

Glad to hear you made it back to the Ranch OK. I would have anticipated a phone call saying; "Bring a 5Gal. Jug of Hootch" with you! "Hootch" works just as fine as Premium Feul or perhaps "Better"!!

Regards, Russ

Well Russ I've put them on the fob together but I've discovered
that sometimes the dangling fob gets hit when I shift and turns my switch off. I've fixed it so I can detach the ignition key from the fob. Normally I just toss the extra keys with the fob in the door pockets. That day I had hung the extra keys on a hook in the garage. Two lessons learned. E really means empty and ALWAYS stash the extra keys in the door.

Except for ign key. That is so easy to work around.

I would give you a hard time Gundy but I have ran out many times especially on motorcycles and once in the Midget. So many times people run out on bikes, they get great mileage but don't hold much fuel. I finally took to carrying a whiskey flask with 8 oz of E85 ethanol it in my saddle bag. With that much ethanol it will keep forever without going bad and is just enough to keep a bike (or spridget)owner from having to push.

I hear ya Kim! I'll just try to watch the gas gauge in the future.

This thread was a good reminder to me. Filled up the Tunebug yesterday after a week of tuning runs. The little guy was almost empty. All better now.

been there done that - with both.

had a friend run out of gas on his bike in front of a school just as it was letting out. He parked the bike and leaned against it, like it was on purpose, for 35 minutes before he could push it home.
