Found a book today......

Moving some boxes out of a garage I was renting for storage, I came across a box of books that belonged to my Dad. Looking inside, I found a copy of Kenneth Ullyett's "The Jaguar Companion". It is a 1960 issue, second printing. Inside the front cover, there is a note:

"With best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Frederick B. Jones and Bonnie."

Then a long scrawling signature beginning with a K, dated London, 1960.

Below the inscription is a stamp reading:

Frederick B. and Virginia B. Jones
5743 Fifth Avenue
Pittsburgh 32, P.A.

How cool is all that??

I wonder how my Dad came to have this book? He must have known the Jones. I wonder what kind of car the Jones' had?? Who or what was Bonnie? A daughter? A car?

And how "coincidental" is it that all these years later there is a Jaguar of relative vintage sitting in my garage?!

Anyone here recognize the Jones' name?

Anyway, thought I'd share that find with you all..... Off to read my new found "treasure"......

I may wish I had not found this book! LoL There is a picture after page 32 of a MkI or a MKII - no readily identifiable features to distinguish which - engine bay with a 2.4L fitted with an Arnott Supercharger! Oh my eyes and my mind did NOT need to see THIS!!!! Someone send the men in the little white coats and the padded van!

Steve....."GETTING" hooked???!! I was BORN hooked.....there were 2-3 1920's Rolls Royces in my family's garage when I came into the world plus a Formula Jr. racecar somewhere I never got to see.....

Yep, I was "doomed" from conception!!!! ROFL

"doomed from conception", "2-3 1920's Rolls Royces". If only I were so lucky to be doomed. When I was born my parents had a suburban, and a Honda civic. Luckily, I've surpassed all odds, and my first car, my b-e-a-u-tiful '89 xj6. I wouldn't mind one of those ancient Rolls.

Unfortunately the RR's have long since departed but not the oil lust!
