Found a 1275 under my nose

After 4 months (the length of my Sprite ownership) of investigating and talking, I've reached the commonly held conclusion that I should buy a 1275 to rebuild, rather than build the 1098 in my '65 Sprite.

On Sunday, I finally got around the checking the engine serial number of my car. Lo and behold, I've already got a 1275!

That was like looking under the tree on Christmas and finding a gift certificate for a 1275 core.

It is sort of embarrassing, but I've noticed that folks on this forum don't mind sharing their foibles, so I thought I'd share. The engine compartment on my car was so grungy, I just assumed the engine was original. Obviously, 46 years is enough time to get "grunged up" more than once.

Studying my rebuild options, I've been thinking, "Gosh, even with a worn-out 1098, this little bugger is not nearly as slow as I would expect. A 1275 will be downright quick."

The good news is that I don't have to buy a 1275 core. The bad news is that the performance increase after rebuild won't be quite as dramatic.

That depends on just what you do during the rebuild. Lots of performance potential in a 1275.

I got a plan for a spridget A/C. I have thought it over and the condenser will have to go in in the back in the differential area where I put the extra(subaru) heater core increase cooling on my midget. I can fit it there with an electric fan. The evaporator is harder. I can actually put it in the heater but will have to remove the heater core. I guess it comes down to a choice between having A/C and having a heater. I have a compressor that will work with my double crank pulley.

There is an electric compresser for cars that the folks with old old stuff use.
