OK, I'm confused

Is this the new forum or the old one ?

Just asked the same question on another thread here. I liked the new one...

We were bad little girls and boys, Basil took our Christmas present away.

I think Basil had a serious problem.

Maybe, I was browsing the forums when it happened last night. Couldn't play my game, couldn't play on my favorite forums... I was forced into boob tube watching last night /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

The upside of that is I got to watch some GT racing on Speed. It was fun watching the Lambos, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Maserattis, and Corvettes mixing it up for a bit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I musta signed off before the chaos last eve. This AM the "new" one loaded fine, and without the side bars it loaded quickly, even here onna GPU (old K6/2 400!). NO LAUGHING!

---I *heard* that, Rob...

hehe, you computer guys always seem to run the old stuff. Cone on doc put a new motherboard in there along with the other good stuff. 2 geg ram, fast fast video card 500K one and whatch that bird sing.

It plugs along jus' fine. Linux 2.4.xx kernel, Gnome and Mozilla. It's the SAMBA server for the hovel's LAN besides.

'smits has th' fancy-schmantzy gear for HER workstation. There's usually between four and seven boxes runnin' here.

Heat sig pro'lly has th' LEO's thinkin' I've a pot farm inside. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Last night the new forum went out at around 11pm(my time)...and a message was up from basil, something like; "board closed to reassess". Like everything thats new it takes some getting used to, Basil is probably just working out the kinks. New or Old I am just glad to have a forum like this - regardless of whether it has sidebars or not!

I never could ge tthe new forum to work right on mine... after about 2 or three minutes... None of the buttons or hotlinks would work, unless I closed the window and logged back on.

Oddly, it worked fine for me.

The new one worked well for me too...

But I now fins that several of my posting have mysteriously disappeared.

I don't know whether I should try to re-enter them or if they'll magically reappear again if, or when the changes are re-done.

I also had a post I entered last night on the new forum, that wasn't there this morning when I checked the old forum...

I had to add page breaks to my .sigfile onna new one and changed the last line. Likely it'll all get redone with this info as the latest data. I can't see Basil having to parse out what/which posts have different data and doubt there's a way to 'merge' 'em anyhow. Some of my drivel gets lost, 'no biggie'. Anything posted that had any relevance I re-entered to this version.

I haven't been here in awhile so I'm not sure what other forum you're talking about, but I had an advertising question and just tried to PM Basil and got the message something like "This member is not receiving Private Messages, or mailbox is full". So I tried using the contact link to email him and got this reply:

"I am currently on sabbatical from the British Car Forum and won't return until at least after the Holidays, perhaps later. If you have questions about forum operations, please see the FAQ page, or post your question in the forums. Sorry I missed you."

So what did I miss?

As one of the moderators, I'd like to address this.

For those who are wondering:

Basil had hoped to upgrade the Forum with some new software. He spent a good deal of time putting it together, and when he introduced it, it was met with less than hearty approval.

I think all will be fine after Basil gets things sorted out, but for now, let's just enjoy the Forum as it is.

Mickey
