Ford Selling Aston Martin for $925Mil

I knew that the Blue Oval boys where having trouble but I had no idea that Aston Martin was on the chopping block!

It couldn't be better news IMO. Aston will pass into the hands of people who really care about it, and it will once again be a British company.

"Hmmm, let's sell the only division that makes us money....."

I just came back from London and this is all over the news there. Folks are happy to see it back in British hands.

I initially thought the same thing as you. In retrospect, the DB7, DB9 and Vanquish probably need a huge capital infusion in the next few years to come up with a fresh design (even though some of it is shared with Jaguar).

That's likely hundreds of $millions that Ford just can't afford. Much better to unload AM now at the pinnacle than at a firesale later on.

By selling AM as a profitable company Ford make some money to reduce their debt. No point in trying to sell off a loss making division, who's going to buy it?

Ford is retaining an interest meaning that whatever profit is made, they will still get a portion. That and the immediate cash- I have to think the number crunchers have their reasons.

I'm sure there are plenty on brains on both sides of this deal. Let's just hope the awesome cars continue.

Saw Casino Royale this weekend, loved the Vanquish! Shame to see it wrecked...

law guy,ive felt they could have used a "plastic" repro. instead of the real deal,i just rented the c.d. over the weekend what a waste, maybe the old man at ferrari had very good reasons not letting ford get their hands on his store aside from ford also wanting the ferarri racing division. i can envision what would have been their new logo, that beautiful prancing horse with a blue ford emblem branded on the horses left butt cheek. eeks! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

hafta agree... was a waste of a sweet car. However, I can't help but marvel at the rigidity of the chassis on that car. I know it's Hollywood and all, but if you watch the wreck closely, the passenger compartment does not visibly deform during the spectacular roll the car goes through, even when it lands on it's roof.

nunyas, i also watched it over and over trying to detect anything in the frames that might have been out of scale/out of place etc. but with the way they use computer generated images these days probably would be impossible to detect anyway, yes that was one heck of a reck i agree the integrity of the structure is outstanding, happens a gent around the corner from me has the same model. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

If it were a classic Aston, it would be a waste of a car. But wrecking a new Aston only means that the company will sell one more car. So from a business standpoint it's a good thing... a profitable situation!
