Doug - thanks for the heads-up. I'm keeping busy on the 1958 220S. Just got the re-lined brake shoes back, so when I get them back on the wheels I can do some driving. Work I've done so far:

- Electrical all back in shape
- Hydrak back in spec, and vacuum tank replaced
- heat/vent system restored
- steering coupler replaced
- interior cleaned up
- replaced all hoses
- ignition system rebuilt
- ATE brake booster rebuilt
- choke assembly rebuilt (two dual Solex PAITA)
- fluids replaced
- all brake lines, hoses, m/c replaced; cylinders rebuilt
- new engine mounts
- new rear axle boot (split)
- front brake shoes re-lined (linings had de-laminated)

After some driving, I'll do a major engine tune-up and rebuild carbs.

On the topic of Mercedes... I recently spotted this very nice example at a classic car swap meet, I did talk to the owner for awhile, he acquired it through our local charity donation program for dirt cheap! As I recall he paid less than $1000 for it, pretty much as you see it sitting there, and the interior is as nice as the outside... It was was sold as a 1957 M-B 180 sedan (gas) but he thinks it is more likely a 1960...

That is one nice looking ponton. And for $1000 the guy got quite a deal. If that chrome is as nice as I think it is, the front bumper alone would go for around $1000 in some places.

And if the engine/drivetrain is strong, interior clean, and body corrosion-free, that car would often sell for over $5000 easy. By the way, if he looks on the number plate on the inner right side fender, he can find the year of manufacture. (The two digits are reversed, to show decade, and year within decade.)

He only got a deal like that because it was through the charitable donation program, I only met him the one time but it sounds like he plans to keep this one for awhile yet and just enjoy it, although I probably won't see it much as he lives in Edmonton (the other large Alberta city, three hours north of me)
