MGB Follow up to my MGB slooowly overheating

After buying and installing an aftermarket gauge and sensor, which of course meant getting my big hands under and into the dash, I found the cause of the overheating.
The timing was set almost double the recommended 12 degrees BTDC. It took quite awhile to do all this because my garage is not heated and I had to wait for warmer weather.
Thanks for all the suggestions and information that the forum members provided.
