It's been a while since I've had a ragtop. How is this done in a 74 B without breaking or tearing anything. This top has clips on the quarter panel by the door jamb and over time has shrunken a bit. I don't want to force it so I figured I'd ask.

If you have a Driver's handbook...or a Bentley repair manual...there are exploded view instructions contained within....Tony *may* have these instructions on his site as well.

But...for the hood that remains with the cockpit (NOT the stowable frame found with the early MGBs):

Basically, what you need to do is release the front bow, side clips, interior snaps from the frame, and the lift-a-dots, then slide the rear retaining rod out from beneath the rear clips.

Lay the hood (top) on the bootlid and fold the quater-lite windows in (on the fabric NOT the plastic side-lite) and gently roll the rear winwod (now conatining the side lites) over the top of the hood frame. (Some folks use a towel between the rear glass to help prevent scarring). The whole top shold compact nicely (like a sleeping bag) and can then be stowed and retained with the leatherette straps that *should* be found hanging from the rear bulkhead.

The tonneau bar then goes into the slots on the side of the frame, and either the half or full tonneau installed.

This seems cumbersome at first, but when you take your time and practice a little, it becomes second nature...and your top will not receive any owner-induced damage. (The car looks better, too!)

Good luck!

It's a 74 and it did not come with the tonneau or top cover. I do not see a bar with it. It shrunk a bit and getting on eof these clips off is a real PITA.

Bravo Company, 3rd Amtrac Battalion, 1st MarDiv, in country from June 66 to May 68, when I rode a stretcher home, via Yokosuka Naval Hospital, Japan.

Semper Fi Mac. I served with a number of units, but the one that was most fun was G2 3rd MarDiv, Camp Courtney, Okinawa. I just love Japan.

The MGE link is perect. Thanks. Just gotta find a tonneau & half tonneau locally.

The PO did not have that either. I need to find one of those too.

Moss sells reprints and there is a copy included in the first section of the Bentley manual, which every MG owner should own!
