Fog light mounting hardware

I mounted lucas fog lamps on my BJ8 using the set-up from Cape International. I also removed my front bumpers and it looks great. I'm sure they have a version for a 100-4(?), with or without the bumper. Their site is www.cape-international.com

Hi Tontonene, The simplest approach to mounting Fog lamps is to use a Badge Bar, available from most US Healey supply sources, that also contain the Fog Lamp Mounting Supports.--Fwiw---Keoke

I just recently went through the same project. I have some advice if you're going to mount the lights without a front bumper, so first please tell me, did you want to keep or remove the front bumper when you mount the lights? (See photo below my signature, and check out my blog, a link for which is in my signature below.)

I plan to keep the bumper.

In that case you have basically two choices: the badge bar mounting that Keoke mentioned, or mounting them to the splash pan, preferably with some kind of reinforcement underneath. If you go the badge bar route, you can buy what you need from catalogs. If you go the splash pan route, you're looking at a need to fabricate.

Personally, I prefer the look of the lights mounted on the splash pan, but it's a matter of personal preference and how much trouble you are willing to go to.

I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say.

Please.

Originally I bought the Cape International driving light brackets from their US distributor. While they are a quality product, like everything Cape International sells, I didn't like their appearance. Yes, they look just like the ones used on the works rally cars, but on those works cars they also doubled as skid plates and tow hooks, and to me they just looked way-too-heavy-duty, over-engineered, clunky, distracting, etc.

I wanted a plain, elegant bracket that would hold the light and not be a distraction. I checked around quite a bit. I got photos from a number of people who had had brackets made. The ones I finally settled on were made for Ron Francis, a club member who lives in Indiana. Ron kindly arranged to have another pair made for me by the same folks who made his. It took time, but I was very pleased with the quality and appearance. I painted them black, bolted them on, and am completely happy with them.

By the way, I think it really looks so much better to use a 700-series light (7-inch diameter) on the front of a Healey without bumpers. The 576-series lights (about 5 3/4-inch diameter) are all right, but look a bit small for the purpose, at least to my eye. The 576-series lights look more appropriate, to me, on cars that still have their bumpers.

Here is a 100/6 with a rally type setup. Fog lights and skid plates no bumpers.

And here is my setup on a 3000 MK I using standard off the shelf badge bar with bumpers intact no drilling, splash guard undisturbed.

Reid,

Did you make the new smaller set of mounts? Photo? Do you have tow / strap down eyes still?

Hi Tracy,

No, Ron Francis got them made for me. There is no towing eye involved (have never needed one!). See my post number 288602 above in this thread.

Cheers
