Float bowl to jet connection leak on HS2

My front HS2 SU carb on my 1275 is leaking at the connection between the float bowl and the jet tube.
Looking at the exploded diagrams, I have trouble seeing how the tube is actually secured to the float bowl.
I noticed when I tugged on the jet tube is slid out loosely back and forth into the bowl.
Any ideas?

When properly assembled the square cross-section o-ring should be 'squished' by the washer and threaded bushing and securely hold the jet tubing. If the o-ring has hardened or perished that won't happen.

A temporary/permanent replacement for the o-ring is to go to the parts store and ask for a short length of 3/16" low pressure fuel hose. Cut a 1/8" thick donut as squarely as possible from the tubing, then carefully split the outer jacket and remove it and the cloth braid that is between the layers. What you are left with is a fuel compatible square section o-ring the same size as the factory part.

FWIW, when it comes to anything involving gasoline, "exploded view" is a very unfortunate term. :whistle: Just sayin'

seriously, I had this too - it was then I decided to get the carbs rebuilt - I could not ever get the compression fitting to properly re-seat.
 
I used Doug's super tip about using modified 3/16" fuel line to make the o ring and it worked like a charm!
With the remaining foot length of line I can make enough to last several lifetimes :smile:

I'm glad it worked for you.

There are other uses for the 3/16" tubing. I have used short lengths to make multi-piece mounting grommets for wiper motors and protective covers for copper oil pressure lines. Too bad there are so few uses for it as fuel hose on LBCs. One foot can last a long time.
