Here in the northern part of New Jersey, we have the normal "skitters" that most of you see in the eastern USA.
But I spent part of my life in the southern New Jersey ~Pine Barrens~ .
In that area, we had HUGE Green Head Flys.
We used to say that the Green Head Fly was the State Bird of South Jersey.
The *worst* thing was to get one inside a motorcycle helmet while riding in the woods.
The only quick solution was to ride up close to a tree and bang your head against it, hoping to squish the bugger between your head and the helmet.
I once had a bee get in my helmet, made eye to eye connection with it from a hundred yards away at about 50mph. It musta stung me at least 3 times before I got the helmet off.
Hair's been going since I was 18. Cut it all off since I don't have to look the part for funerals anymore. Much cooler. and looks better anyway.
