Flasher unit burnt up

My flasher unit burnt up, the one that is placed on the box above the pedals. Can I just replace it with a standard flasher unit (rele) ? . I on my way on holliday, and cannot wait until I`ve got an original. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

My car had a standard over the counter relay in it that worked, but it had spade connectors instead of the screw on that my harness used.

Since I bought a new harness, I have ordered one from UK Healey, and am patiently waiting for it to get here (I love the savings of international ordering, I hate the inconsistency of international airmail).

I have been using an over-the-counter flasher for longer than I can remember with no problems. However, it is possible that an over-the-counter will not be to the correct specs and the flashers will not operate properly (blink too fast). If I recall correctly I had one that did that. They are pretty inexpensive and easy to install, so give it a try. If it doesn't operate properly order the "correct" one from a Healey supplier.

I am on holiday in Scotland (with the Healey). Tried several "standard" units, but none will make the lights flash, only light.
But there is no problem, people are so nice in the traffic here in Scotland. But back in Norway I will need a new unit.

Is there are simple test to see if the flasher unit is working. My flashers have stopped working, both at the same time. I suppose that indicates (no pun intended) the flasher unit is toast

Well, I am sure you will be getting more detailed responses, but it could be a number of things. My assumption is that all other electrics are functioning OK??? A key question to find the answer to is "are the brake lights working??" If the brake lights are not working (and even if they are, actually) the problem might be the big flasher relay unit that is mounted on the driver side inner fender panel (below, behind and under the brake/clutch fluid reservoir). This is an expensive unit to replace, but it is repairable. In my case it turned out that cleaning up the points with fine emory paper did the trick. There is a trouble shooting guide in Norm Nock's treatise and also I believe in the factory workshop manual. Of course, it could just be the little flasher relay, too. Good luck.
