Flasher help needed

A little help please.

I have all the electric components installed in my restoration, other than those directly associated with the motor. In trying out the flashers I discovered that the left turn signal works great front and rear. The right front and rear lamps do not flash when the turn signal is applied.

I am using the orginal flasher canister and a new flasher relay. When the turn signal is turned on in either direction I do hear one click at the relay, though the click for the right non-working side isn't quite as crisp as the left. The flasher canister continues to click when the left signal is applied, but no clicking at the canister for right turns.

I replaced the original flasher canister with a new one and I got nothing in either direction??? I may have it hooked up improperly. The original canister terminals are marked as in the manual: B - Green, L - Green/Brown and P - light green. The new canister terminals are marked P, X and L. Can someone tell me which color wires should go to which terminal on the new canister so that I can check myself?

I checked the workshop manual and read about adjusting the flasher relay so I thought I would check things out in the box - whoops! New box is all electronic - circuit board inside. Are there no adjustments possible on this electronic version of the flasher relay?

Is my problem the canister?, or, should I look for another culprit? Thanks for any help offered.

make sure to work your way through the whole wiring circuit and check your connections (pull apart all the bullets and put them back together again). Pay special attention to the big 5-way bullet connector on the fire wall and also double check all of your ground circuits everywhere first.

Once done get back to us and let us know what the result is.

Hi Lin, seems like it would be nice to know if the flasher voltage is present on the correct pins of the relay when it is in the Right Turn position. That data is reflected in the Factory manual Wiring Schematic. Following each lead to its intended lamp should show continuity of the voltage all along the line.If it appears at the destination lamp but it does not flash, just ground its housing and you should be good to go if the bulb is not burned out. Similarly, if the voltage is lost along the way you know where the discontinuity appears-Fwiw--Keoke

Okay, looks like the first thing to do is to check ground connections everwhere. I will do that this evening and see what I come up with. Thanks for the help!

Check all the connections in the relay, although it is new, some may be a little tarnished and the points may be in a similar state, though they should not be. Had a similar problem with my BJ7 with the original unit, pulled all the connections, a little emery cloth to clean up the terminals and a little vaseline and all was great again.

Of course the earth ( ground may also have something to do with it)
