Fixin to wake the dead tonight....a question first

Everything is buttoned up (I think, will triple check) and just thought, when I pulled the radiator, of course essentially all the coolant drained from the engine. I reinstalled the radiator and filled with 50-50 coolant. How much is in my block? Should I pop the thermostat and try and top off the block with coolant before reinstalling the stat and cranking. I was just thinking that what if there is a huge air pocket in my block and the water pump has nothing to circulate. Or is this a none issue?

Gotcha. After three weary months of looking at my rearview mirrors at eye level, I think I am getting a little anticipatory, to say the least.

Old mechanics trick, stick an aspirin into the thermostat to keep it open until it warms up. Then you know how much more the rad. needs

Re: Fixin to wake the dead tonight....a question f

Can I just take the aspirin for my headache?

Bill, for heavens sake, don't forget to add
a can or two of radiator "Stop-a-Leak".

DPO Pedro swears by that stuff!! Says it helps
the engine run ever so much cooler.

j u s t k i d d i n g !!

run it for a bit with the radiator cap off should
outgas all the bubbles.

I must say, a lot grand folks seem to have originated
from Pennsylvania. Must be all the cow pies used for
fertilzer on the farms.

Remember this TV/radio ad?

" You know you're slingin' when the chains get swingin'" ?

Hmmm.

Dale's quoting Pedro and old TV ads now.

Wendy......you better look in on him.

Agree with Andy, a non-issue.

1. Start it, rad cap off, let it run for a couple of mins to purge air.
2. Top off with coolant when running, replace cap.
3. Run several more mins until stat opens. Watch gauge.
3a. Shut it off if running hot.
4. Wait until cool, top off again. Done.

Just don't use a Viagra as the radiator hose will swell up and you'll never get the hood closed...
