Fixed my dads "clunk"

My dad has been complaining of a bad clunk in the front end of his Wire wheel 69 MGB for some time(how long were you gonna keep driving it that way?). SO today I took it to work for it's annual inspection, and put it up to look at what might be causing the clunk.
Hmmm, let's see.....
Lower "A" arm bushings are ok
tie rod ends are good
ohh left kingpin has some movement, but not what I've been hearing.. (make mental note of kingpin for later)
Brake calipers are tight
Oh ho!.. theres some play in the wheel! Bearing? no. Oh worn out splines and spinners that are a bit loose, and this one, and this one... all of em.
Well a good cranking from the 'Ol British wheel wrench took care of the clunking for now, but I told dad he needes to start saving for new front hubs, and rear axel shafts...
And he should probably get new wheels too...
Too bad. the wheels on it were put on just prior to us getting the car, but new wheels on old hubs, and not tightening them quite enough has caused a good amount of slop...
I hope they hold for a while /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Keep in mind that all of the braking force goes through those splines, and just tightening the knockoff will not really help if they spin. Not trying to be a nanny, but safety fast you know.

I know.... I warned my dad. That's why my last comment was "hope it holds"
But thanks for the friendly warning.

I spent many good years with my Dad fixing our MGs. We had a 75 MBG, a 57 MGA and "Winston" a 54 MGTF. The all looked cute parked in a two car garage.

Dad is gone now and my son Danny has taken my spot in working on the MG. I really miss the wonderful time I spent with my Dad. It was probably the very best times. Take good care of your Dad!
