Newbie here, Hi all! My name is Kevin and I have a 79 MBG Limited Edition. My dad bought it brand new in 79 and now its mine. Well...... The car is running too rich, and im getting these nasty fumes coming into the car, its also eating more gas. Im on the SU carb. and we think the Automatic Choke control is stuck. At first i thought there was a crack in the intake manifold or an exhaust leak of some sort, but it seems fine. Is anyone else on this forum running a Manual Choke control? how is that going for you?

Kev

Welcome!

I agree with John the water choke (enrichment device) is a PITR. But be warned converting to a Manual choke isn't legal on emissions vehicles in California. So if you convert you run the risk of failing the bi-annual smog test if the technician performing the test knows what he is looking for.

That said before you convert I think you should check out Tony’s web page. He has a lot of good stuff and pretty through procedure for setting up the water choke that really helped me.

Here is the link: The Autoist

Good Luck!

Welcome Kevin, Had the same trouble with my '76B when I converted from water to manual, spent a small fortune on spark plugs trying to figure things out, finaly by accident it turned out the manual choke linkage was backwards!? Once you get the car warmed up, try "applying" the choke and see what happens? Once I got this figured out my car runs like a top, no more black smoke, fumes etc. Be sure all your tune up stuff is good, and good luck! MACK /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
