Just got a big box in the UPS from PeterC containing:

* Rebuilt A-Arms/kingpins/swivel axles
* Rebuilt front shocks
* Rebuilt disc brake calipers

My first bits of the new year, and the first bits for the springtime renewal of the Tunebug. Now I've really got to get at it. Got to figure out the bits I still need for the brakes/suspension (mostly small brake bits and the front bearings). Time to make a list and a call to Tony! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

& I'm hoping my box from Peter made it to my place today! I'm in Atlanta for a wedding.

Did Peter rebuild those calipers? If so, I might want him to do mine....I've got all the pieces on the shelf right now to include new pistons!

Ohhh, bright shiney parts. I like it.

Nice! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

The calipers came from Peter, but he doesn't do the rebuilding himself -- he's got a supplier that does them. Not much local to me, so it was a good deal for me to get them while I was doing everything else.

Ah, okay - I'll go ahead & rebuild mine myself.

I just changed out the bearing in my front hubs that I got off of a parts car. I was tempted to leave them because they seemed good. After I got them out I cleaned them to inspect them and it made me feel better about my choice to replace them. One had some rust and the a couple others had visible signs of heat/wear damage.

I did this in my home garage with no press and it wasn't too bad. I used the old outer bearing races(ground down) to carefully drive in the new ones.

I'll probably take my front hubs to a shop down in the city -- owner's an MG guy and knows this old stuff well.

I'm assuming I can assemble most of the suspension bits on the bench, then bolt the whole thing to the car?

Drew - there's nothing there you can't do right on your home bench! No special tools required!

Right Tony, I even did it without using a vise. I used a hammer, a punch, and an angle grinder (to reduce the old bearing outer diameter). As long as you pack the bearings well and clean out the hubs before reassembly it is easy. Of course you need to make sure the bearings are oriented correctly, but that is simple. And the bearings are easy to remove with the notches provided inside the hub.

I'm looking forward to those parts, Hap!

I'll have to see if I think I can get the front bearings in -- I'm just always worried about breaking something...

As you should be. Just go slow and think it through.

When I got home today, there's a big box from Peter! Can hardly wait till tomorrow when I open it!!

Yep - all my pretty parts from PeterC are here!!

He paints shocks black but I'm trying to remember - weren't they natural?

The bodies were natural, the arms were black.
