Firing order 1978 Mg Midget 1500

I think it is right but the car is not running well and I changed the wires-one at a time? The order listed is 1,3,4,2 but where do you start #1 on the cap, and where does # 3 go? thanks Jim

I recently wrote a PDF document for setting static timing. It has a supplemental section talking about firing order and spark plug wire placement. Please download it and see if it doesn't answer your questions.
https://home.mindspring.com/~purlawson/files/StaticTiming.pdf

Succinctly, find #1 TDC (when the cylinder closest to the radiator is at the top at the end of its compression stroke). Look at where the rotor is pointing on the distributor cap. The lead on that position goes to #1 cylinder. For Lucas 4-cylinder dizzys, the plug wires go CCW around the cap so the next position after #1 is the spark plug wire for #3, then #4, then #2.

Let me know if the PDF helps.

Thanks again to Doug for a well written document specific to one operation too many find daunting. Good-on-ya! 'specially the "re-read" part! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Gosh... thanks everyone.

Jbuffalo... any luck sorting out the firing order?
