Firefox?

I need a new browser. Have been using IE 6 but support is soon to eliminated. So, I loaded IE 8 the other day and all was well until I tried to open some of my other stuff, i.e., online radio/cd player (Dell Music Match). Get the hourglass for about 3 seconds and then nothing. Don't know how to get around this.

So, the question is, anybody use Firefox, like it, hate it?
Any other browsers you think are better?
HELP. I know less than most about 'puters and software. Old dog, new tricks sort of thingie goin' on here.

What's your O/S?

XP

Google Chrome is my browser of choice. The only reason people still use Firefox is because it's been around forever. It's worse that the current iteration of Internet Explorer, IMO.

I prefer Firefox over IE8 also. But I think you will run into the same issue with any new browser you install. If Music Match uses a special plug-in or something like Real Player, you'll need to install that software into the new browser.

I used Firefox and now mostly use Google Chrome - there's a few things it won't do (like about 2 websites that I frequent) and for them I still use Firefox. With Firefox & XP, I find that I have to periodically shut it down and restart as it uses more and more memory as time goes on. I also use ccleaner to get rid of surplus files and when Chrome starts to slow down. I also have Opera installed but have not been impressed.

I think it would be easier to find out who doesn't use Firefox these days.

On rare occasion I've found pages that like IE8 for one reason or another, but 99.99% of the time I use Firefox. I"ve used all the rest too - Firefox wins out for me, hands down.

Thanks to all of you for your insight. Think I'll give FF a try.

I don't! I use Flock! Ever tried it? Has a media bar that connects to your Photobucket and Flicker accounts. I still use the older version, but if your into the pretties, the new version would more than likely be your choice. It's based on the FireFox platform. I've used it ever since it came out, tried all, and I mean ALL the rest, even in Linux and always come back to Flock. But, that's just me. PJ

I'm always the Guinea pig, tried everything. The reason for recommending FF is it's the best ~common~ browser.

I started out with Mosaic, BTW. Mebbe that made me a bit 'brand loyal'.

I agree Doc, that it is the best common browser and seems to work in just about every environment, but I use Flock because of it's unique hook up with Photo bucket and Flicker using a quick display media bar where you can grab a photo and pull it into a work space in a second using the BB code or other format. I'm just lazy and it's easier for me!

Media bar looks like this, pretty cool actually.

I was a loyal FF user until I started having system lockup problems on a couple of computers that were set up differently; no common troubleshooting points. I then switched to Chrome and it has been good for 99% of my needs. I do all I can to avoid IE.

The only issue I have with Firefox has been opening embedded .pdf files with it - but that's not really an issue with Firefox exactly; it's something with acrobat or a combo of the two (why people insist on fantasizing that a .pdf file is a webpage is beyond me anyway, but that's another issue.

I also ran across a federal government website that only works smoothly with Safari. They just removed all the useful functions from it so they kind of solved my reasons for using Safari

Anyway - these are some stats from my photography website. Firefox is popular (I don't know if they put Flock in with Firefox or Mozilla). If you use your browser to view images use Firefox or Safari, or something else colorspace-aware (I assume Flock is but check).

I have both F.F. and Safari, where one wont work the other will!
and I too Avoid I.E. like it has the plague!
I use a program called diskcleaner { https://www.diskcleaner.nl/ } to keep all of the junk files at bay! It works great!
P.S. My op sys is XP Pro.
