Yesterday was the big day ! trailered the car down to my old shop and got it into the booth.
Robbins egg blue.Or at least the modern facsimile of it in modern paints. Will bring it home today
and get some pics to post up.

Boot, bonnet , and spare cover were off as well as the scuttle cover. Naturelly a large fly
landed on the hood before the last coat could flash off.So some sanding and buffing is
necessary.That is why painters drink........

When that happens to me i will get some one inch masking tape rolled sticky side out and fetch the dirty little begger off with that, normally only leaves a few footprints.
moths are the worse, had a huge one land in the bonnet, by the time i had sprayed down the one side he had walked a foot accross the bonnet trying to find his way off.

Mark,
The paint job looks great. Like the color. Quick question - how to you insert fender beads at tis point?

The car in the back ground is a 61 Morgan with the Le Mans style spare cover(hand made).
The wings are bolted, but not tightened .After polishing, the panels are taped and the beads
inserted carefully, before final fitting/tightening.

It is the modern base clear version of the OE color( or at least as my eye could
judge it) The human eye can detect differences in lighter colors more easily than
dark colors. So white is the ultimate test, In my 55years I have never seen an actual
pure white car. 100% of all whites that are used on cars are some pastel of white.
having a few drops of black, or blue ,or red or yellow or all of them. Each of the mixing
colors will have 5 or 6 shades/hews.
The paint is a Sikkens line that I have used for many years with great results.

Love the color, but I'm biased!

unnamed (4).jpg

It took over two years to get the paint right on this one. Three different painters. If I knew that I would encounter all of that I would have done it myself, since I put a HarborFreight portable garage in my big workshop and used it to paint the frame and various bits. Once done, I stripped and sanded the engine compartment and sprayed it again to get it right....

I assume you also install the stone shields at this point. Do you have any hints on how to install the shields without damaging the new paint?

Yes I do. painters tape to protect the finish. Multiple test fittings and filing the
contours of the poorly done edges until the fit is just so.The bolt holes are also
wrong and must be modified. Two hours later take off the tape ,have a cold one!
