The machine shop finally was able to get the proper spring tension on my springs. 90lb closed and 160lb open. He had a compression vice that could dial in the amount of lift and determine whether we would have any binding. Pretty cool. I ended up with the stock collar on the bottom with one shim. The competition double springs were from the vendor that sold me the original fast road cam. The problem that I see was that the machine shop that originally built the head (shaved it 9.5:1) and ported and polished it installed the springs wrong, with very, very low spring pressure. I was floating springs all these miles! Now have good pressure. Interestingly, the springs from TSI-Automotive were shorter and fatter than the GoodParts springs but were not as stout. So I will be sending these back. Very probable that all my problems were from improperly installed springs all along. Who know.
