Finally a bit of progress

I steeled myself and went back at things today. I finally got the windshield completely installed. What a total PITA. I think the problem was worse because its so cold in my basement and that made the rubber harder. But that is done. I feel much better making some progress and getting over a hurdle that had been bugging me. I made some shims out of 11 gauge metal and used them. Ah, a small victory. Still a long ways to go. With that done though, I decided to drink a brew and snap a few pics of my screw ups and other junk. OK. in this first picture I have these four shims that I originally thought were for the windshield but the holes are two close together. Anyone know what these are for? I must have left them out somewhere. The next is of the brand new emblem that I ruined with the 3m emblem adhesive. Next the nostril that I accidentally drilled up through the hood when installing the surround (which I am still not happy with). Then just an interior pic. And the next is another problem. The vent window to windshield seal. The rubber lips that are supposed to slide into the channel are too narrow. Has anyone else had this problem? I ordered the seal for the right year.

May I suggest your measure the width of that slot for the rubber seal and call Moss tech and ask which rubber seal peice you need? Obviously your window is different that the year of the car or they sent the wrong item.

Eh, Jack I have had these at least a year and I did not get them directly from moss but a distributor. I doubt they would exchange after that long. I do need to call though and see what is going on, so I can get the right ones. Now if I can just get those window door glass seals to cooperate with the new clips at about a buck a piece. Then I feel like I will be over the hump. Still many little things, but the major jobs left will be the seat reupolstery and reinstalling them and then the top reinstallation. Knock on wood my knees are feelinga bit better since I got that shots of synvisc in the right one and I am feeling optomistic about making that trip to Missouri. Still a long time yet and I am not going to make reservations yet, but I see some light man.

Outstanding news on your knees. Hang tough.

You did not order through Tony, shame on you. LOL

Very close now, Kim. Good to see the progress -- and the little oopses along the way. Lordy know we've all had them, and it's good to be able to pick up some what-to-dos and what-not-to-dos.

Good news on the knees as well. Take it easy and enjoy those hard earned brews. You'll be driving in the spring. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

still not sure about those other pieces - did you try to match them with your door hinge holes? that's the only group of four that comes to mind.

If it were an MGB, I'd say those pieces are the washers for under the vent window assembly.

That could very well be. Or some type of shim for bumper mount. (Just shooting in the dark here) I know I dont have anything like em and Im completely dissembled. (Never took the doors off though which makes me lead to believe the above statement....

They look like the shims for the door hinges where they attach in the doors.
...but if the doors haven't come off, Tony's guess sounds plausible.

Kind of makes me wonder if those shims mean he is trying to install the wrong vent windows as well. He has had problems with the rubber suround being the wrong size.

No Jack, I know the vent windows are from a later model because I bought them from 78 becasue they we stainless steel, but the seals go on the windshield. Thos shims might have come out of the doors. I got my doors fitted well so I guess I don't need the shims then.

I would agree with the shims Kim, stick em back just in case one day.

No question in my mind then Kim, you have the wrong seals. Sorry bud.

Those seals didn't fit in mine last year either so I ended up pop-riveting them in place, maybe it isn't perfect but it works and isn't visible.
Bill

Hmmn, I am considering a good contact cement or maybe that trim adhesive /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif Not too worried about this. If it doesn't last I can just buy the right thing and its not that big a deal to put on or take off. I must focus and get ready for those door seal clips though. Anyone got any valium /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Kim - was sorting through the boxes tonight looking for the next round of bolts and came upon the door bolts and spacers for Ms Triss - see attached. They are 2 5/8" X 1" and I presume are exactly what you thought they were as you tried to identify them

cheers
