Filling for an Armstrong shock

We've got some shocks from the Bug-Eye (or goodness knows where), with two of them having phillips style machine screw heads on the cover plate and one with slot style.

The Phillips appear to match a PH2 tip in my multi-tip set, but I wasn't able to find my Pozi-Drive set to test them.

The filler plug takes a 7/8" Imperial wrench/socket.

When I pulled the 'phillips' style filler, I found:
- the filler bolt has a single rubber o-ring at the top to seal to the body of the shock
- a 'pin' type item with two flat washers as part of it (one shock had two; the other had one, but perhaps I lost the second getting rid of the existing fluid)
- a spring in the bottom.

So - don't lose any of these bits!

And the old fluid stank - kind of like excrement that isn't fresh, but hasn't quite fossilized.

Per the Wisdom on the is site, I picked ups some 20 wt Motul motorcycle fork oil and have used that.

I'll find my Pozi-Drives tomorrow, and try taking the cover plate off one of the shocks and advise.

Well you are not out anything for trying to refill them but I'll bet they eventually end up going to Peter C.! I've got some old Armstrong shock oil and I think its a little thinner than 20wt but a test drive will tell if that's right.

Kurt.
