Fiero seats

Offline
I finished a pair of Fiero seats for Pete Mantell of Mantell Motorsport this week....

The seats are sitting low because the seat rails have yet to be bolted on.....Mr.Mike did the embroidery work for him.

I installed new speakers and rebuilt the seat bolsters and added some body to the seat bottoms. Also cut slots for the shoulder belts (which is why the leather flaps are still exposed...they will disappear after the harness is installed into the seat.

Pretty, rick, & nice work - looks like Mr. Mike is still doing quality work....a tidbit for the history books: he does the MG logo on seats because of theAutoist!! We've been doing seats with him for years & got him to do the layout - I actually have the first set of seats he did with the logo on them here in my garage!!

& when you need more seats, tracks, parts, etc. for future jobs, lemme know....I have access to about 300 Fiero's in a local junkyard...it where I get all my seat parts.

I'll do that, Tony! I've already had a request for a quote. Thanks!

Nice stuff. Are the speakers that you installed the ones that are on the headrest?

When I do seats for customers, I replace the original speakers with Eclipse 8233's...if anybody wants any OE Fiero speakers, I've got lots you can have!

Will Fiero seats fit in a spitfire> I need to replace the originals. The cost of refoaming and covering is too expensive for my blood. How much modifacation would there be?

There was a post on a different BBS about installing Fiero seats in Spit.
Anything is possible with modifications.

(Likewise with the Miata swap.)

I don't know the specifics regarding the Triumph swap.

Be aware that installing Fiero or Miata seats may or may not be less expensive than redoing your existing Spitfire seats as *most* require a reupholstry job as well.

Tony I'd like some Fiero seats for my GT...I'll be sending you a PM unless you beat me to it.

Do they come in black? Stock black seats with your fancy speakers and whatever adapters are required so they bolt in is what I'm looking for.

Brett

Fiero seats didn't come in black but Mr Mike does a real nice black leather....go to https://www.mrmikes.com to see his products....as a dealer, I get a tiny discount that can help with labor costs & can provide everything so your seats will just bolt right in (with the proper rake & angle)....I also use Fiero arm rests in my MG.

I just dye them to match the leather!

Tony can chime in here...but I've only seen Fiero seats come out of a Pontiac in grey or beige. There were a couple of different styles of upholstry, but only one style/shape of seat.

Not all Fieros had speakers in the headrests.

There are several options for speakers available...I used Infinity's on this job. In my opinion, you would be wise to replace the stock speakers when doing this job...the picture below shows the condition that I've found most of them to be in upon inspection...

Rick's absolutely correct....I think only '84 Fiero's had speakers in seats...but the modification to put speakers in any Fiero seat is an easy one

Infiniti's are great speakers...I bought a batch of Eclipse 8233's some time back and have done a dozen or so sets using them, think I only have 1 set left....however, any good, round 3"-4" or so speaker will work (forget the dimensions right off hand)

These Infinity's were 3-1/2" diameter.

I cut the tabs off before installation...and use the original Fiero wiring clips.

We sourced the seats for under $50/pair. We got them at a "You-Pull-It" style salvage yard.

The Mr.Mikes kit with the ordered options, including embroidery was about $600.

The speakers were about $100/two pair (one pair for each seat).

I exchanged my labour with Pete for some powdercoating, etc.

Here's the seats I did for my MGB/GT V8 conversion:

The GT seats are very nice as are the ones at the top. I'm amazed with some of you guys, that have 3 of 4 MGs. I can hardly keep up with just one. WOW!!

Rick,

Do you have another car as a daily driver? I know Steve who lives less than 1 mile from me, uses his MGB GT as his daily driver. That really blows me away.

Maybe if I were mechanically inclined like you guys I would do it as well.... I don't know.

Yes...I have a 1996 Nissan 300ZX and a 2004 Ford F-150 Heritage. The wife has a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer.

I used my 1978 MGB as a daily driver in the summers in the late '80s.
