I have read that the Fiat twin cam engine over the years was made with three deck heights depending on stroke. The 1608 is a bit taller than the smaller models and the 2 liter taller still. Does anyone have info on if the 1608 or 2.0 will interfere with the hood and also ground clearance of the pan.
 
I do like the fact that the engine is short enough to retain heater box and battery shelf. Some of us do like to drive when there is a little nip in the air.

Yeah I noticed that right off. Know what else I noticed? That I see 124s in the self-serve junkyards regulary. I never find a 210 that's not been cleaned of it's 5 speed before the forklift brings it out of the pre-staging area. Even the guys who run the yards are hip to them. So the Twin Cam idea is making me sweaty. I just wanna know if I can stuff a 2.0 under a stock hood in my MKIII Midget.
 
There was a Bugeye project with a fiat twin cam and a 5 speed on Ebay not too long ago. You could try and ask the seller.

Any info on overall twin cam engine heights? I was just searching during lunch and have yet to find the info.
 
A trick you might want to use sometime to check your actual under hood clearance is to make up a ball of bread/biscuit dough, and then put it on your valve cover and close the hood. The dough approach worked for me once; the advantage (for me) is that we're normally got flour etc around the house, and you end up with a nice big wad that holds its shape but is easily deformable. If you use cookie dough, make sure everything is clean so you don't have to throw it out later....
Regards Fiat 124s: haven't seen one of those in the parts yards around this part of (salty/rusty) world for years.
