Fiat-Abarth on eBay

That is a pretty little car. Who knows? Someone may come up with that much for the "Buy It Now" but it won't be me. Even if I could afford it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I agree, they are being very hopeful.

Wow

If I could only get my car finished

I'm guessing the motor details in the ebay car are not as would have been originally crafted by Carlos Abarth? I'm not an expert....

You are correct.

The engine should be 750CC based on a Fiat 600 block that was about the only thing Fiat.Crank, cam, pistons where all Abarth stuff push the 26hp to 56hp made it do over 100mph.

Most people take the 750 engine out and run a 850 cc later Fiat engine.

I'm close in Waterloo - so, if you'd like I'd be happy to take care of the healey and the bike for say a decade so you'll have room to work on the Abarth /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

no pressure then for space

It's selfless, team-oriented guys like you that give the BCF its warm and fuzzy atmosphere...... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I'm chokin' up! Sniff!

It's a dirty job but someone has to do it - just call me selfless and giving /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/angel.gif (and I know you'd do the same /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif)

Hey John

Thanks for the offer but I have lots of room. What I really need is extra set of hands. My car has been a sleep over 25 years. She was a perfect little car pull it off the road in about 1982 for a quick paint job which was done. What was once a three month project has now turned into long time storage. The plan is to have her up and awake by 2009 just in time for my 50th. The engine I rebuilt just before put her to sleep. I have the orginal 750 cc but put in a high output 850cc in.

Yep even has Lucas tail lights they are orginal.

So extra hands needed

well I can't say they're skilled hands but they aren't exactly unskilled either and I do have a somewhat flexible schedule if that's what's standing in your way, I'd be happy to help sometime. - It certainly would be a different & fun experience.

Wow!
Just got a chance to look at the eBay Abarth. Nice car!

When I was a teenager, I had an Autobianchini but we chopped it up to build a go-cart. Later, a college friend of mine bought a clapped-out ASA Coupe to drive to school.
If only I knew then what I know now!

I still like Italian tiddle-cars (and obviously, Brit ones too). Here are some pictures I took at Lime Rock in recent years:

Yep Lime Rock is the hot bed for Abarth's on the East Coast.

About the only place you can see a couple of car at once.

John S thanks for the offer of help maybe we will see you at Bronte on the weekend. I will be with the Big Healey boy's you can spot my car since it has a bullet hole thru the windshield.

Cheers

Always has been. I'm old enough to remember the Roosevelt cars when they were racing in the late 50's. Does anyone know what the connection with FDR was? I think the "Abarth" Roosevelt was a nephew - is that right?

There's a guy here in Calgary who recently purchased one of these out of a California collection... I haven't seen it yet

My understanding from Grant is that most Abarth's are bought/sold through personal contacts, with few of them going on the open market, I know he purchased his car from a collector just simply because he asked if the car might be for sale...

I've seen one of these once before (when I lived in Ontario) and was amazed at how tiny they are, made more obvious because they are so low to the ground

It was the son of the Prsident that was the Abarth dealer in the US`. A new Abarth in 1959 was more money then a Jaguar of the time.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Jr he went to Italy to sign the deal himself. This race team won many victories in US in the early 1960's. There contract lasted two years but there where many wins during this two years.

I would love to find the second bidder on the one mentioned that hit $286K , I could find something for him to blow his money on /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The free drinks must have really been flowing that year !

So I looked - twice - all intact windows and now windows with your name on it. Sorry I missed you at Bronte - but the offer is still good

John

I arrived very late The Healey was acting up. One needle and seat was sticking so we had gas flowing out the over flow. I was in Wiarton for a wedding but managed to fix it on my way to Bronte.
