....the 49th running.. Started in 1962 with the Continental, a 3 hour race, won by Dan Gurney. I was there stringing for Competition Press. Where did the time go?

Brings back memories... I was at that race when I was in college (a LONG time ago!!). It was very exciting to watch.

I was just at a party with 30 people (my grandaughter's 3rd birthday) and I comandeered the TV to watch the start of the race. Actually, a couple of the guys said it was way better than being stuck watching football.

I just got home and a friend just sent me a link to a highly illegal web stream of the 2011 Daytona 24 so as to warn me to avoid it.

It's been foggy this morning in Fla and the car have been running under a caution for the last 2 hours due to poor vis.

Thanks, Nial. I shoulda gone over there but we're stuck in here with "chores" we can't ignore.

fooey.

My in-laws spent their honeymoon at the 8th annual running of the 24 hrs of Daytona. they celebrated their 41st anniversary yesterday.
Dad-in law was a track worker after retiring from driving due to a nasty wreck at Riverside. My Mom-in-law tells how she spent the night in the Italian pits, afraid to say yes to anything they said, not knowing what they were offering.
Dad-in-law tells how spooky it was at night in pit road, as the cars would shut off their engines and lights, and coast by. Whoosh!
