FE engine number???

The 68 spit I'm about to aquire has an FE engine number stamped on it. My information was that 67-70 used an FD engine number, the same as the body and commission numbers. But I also show that in 70 they went directly to FK, is this right? And if so, what year would an FE engine be out of?

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know what the differences were between the US model and the European? I'm assuming it had to do with polution control.

Differences between home market and "Federal" spec were found primarily in the camshaft profile and "special" emissions SU carburetors (different needle, and a cute little thing that was supposed to keep you from being able to adjust mixture very much).
